Located off Old Redwood Highway in the Town of Windsor, Sons & Daughters Ranch Vineyard is in the Chalk Hill sub-appellation of the Russian River Valley AVA.  The Chalk Hill AVA is named for the chalky white ash that characterizes the soils. It is volcanic in origin, not actual chalk!  It is a somewhat warmer area with moderating breezes but less cool fog.

The vineyard sits 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean and its valley floor orientation promotes even ripening of the vines.  A classic valley floor vineyard with alluvial soils exhibiting the dry, silty, loamy, sand and gravel soils that you would expect to find in a dried-out riverbed, Sons and Daughters is planted in the classic California sprawl style, the dappled light protects fruit from the direct sun allowing for a natural vine balance.

With 24 acres of Chardonnay, 6 acres of a Cabernet Blend, 2.5 acres of Zinfandel planted in 1885, 1.5 acres of Grenache Noir, 1.5 acres of Viognier, 1.5 acres of Grenache Blanc, 3 acres of a Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend and 1.6 acres of Albariño, this Vineyard has been continuously producing classic Russian River Valley wines for 130 years.
